1. Installation/Un-Installation Guidelines

 

 

1.1. System Requirements

 

Hardware:

1. CPU - Minimum 512MHz

2. RAM - 512 MB

 

Software:

1. Windows XP (Service Pack 1 or grater) / Windows 7 / Windows Vista Operating System

2. Windows Office 2000 or later - Requires Microsoft Outlook configured.

3. Microsoft Common Runtime Library 2.0 or later version.

 

1.2. Installation Guidelines

 

Step 1: Double click the Setup.exe file to start the application installation process.

Step 2: At the welcome page click the Next> Button

 

 

Step 3: Accept the License Agreement. All the end users are advised to read the License Agreement carefully before installing the application.

 

 

On agreeing to the terms and conditions, the installation wizard will take you to the next step.

Step 4: Choose the desired folder where you want the application to install in your machine.

 

 

Click Next > button to proceed further with the installation.

Step 5: You can confirm installation by clicking the Install button.

 

 

 

Step 6: Normal installation will take maximum 2 minutes. On successful installation, you will get the following dialogue box with Finish button enabled.

 

 

Click Close button to complete the installation.

 

 

1.3. Un-installation Guidelines

 

Step 1: Go to Control Panel by Start -> Control Panel

Step 2: For Windows XP users open Add or Remove Programs, Windows Vista, and up open Programs and Features

Step 3: Click on DuplicateFinder

 

 

Step 4: Click Remove button to initiate uninstall process.

Step 5: Click the "Yes" button in the uninstall dialogue.

 

 

It will take around 1 - 3 minutes time to uninstall the whole application.

If you face any problem in un-installation, please restart your machine and try again.

Alternatively you can uninstall from the application start menu entry by Windows Start -> All Programs -> DuplicateFinder -> Uninstall

 

 

1.4. Upgrading the License

 

At any point of time, end user can upgrade the license. License up-gradation page will be opened by clicking Help -> Register

2. Registration / Licenses

 

2.1. Registration Steps

Step 1: Start the DuplicateFinder application by Windows Start -> All Programs -> DuplicateFinder.

Step 2: On first start, the application will show the Product Upgrade Form as follows,

 

 

By default you are provided with a free 15 day trial of the application.

To remove the time restrictions you must purchase a product key from http://www.duplicatefinder.org/upgrade.php

Step 3: To purchase a software licence click on the Upgrade button, this will direct you to the product order website.

After purchasing a licence you will be emailed a product key, which you must use in the following stages.

Step 4: Click the Activate Button on the Product Upgrade form shown above.

Step 5: Select Automatic activation process, and click Next.

 

Step 6: Enter the Product key sent to you after purchasing a licence from the website, and click the Next button.

 

 

Step 7: The product will then automatically activate and all software functionality will be unlocked.

 

 

Click the Finish button to continue to the application, you do not need to follow the remaining steps.

If automatic activation fails, this can occur if you do not have an Internet connection, click the Back button to return to the activation method selection page.

Step 8: Select Manual activation process, and click Next.

 

 

Step 9: Enter your product key and click the Go button, this will direct you to http://www.duplicatefinder.org/activate.php

 

If you do not have an Internet connection on the computer you are trying to register the application on then make a note of your Product Key and Hardware ID and navigate to http://www.duplicatefinder.org/activate.php on a computer that does.

Step 10: Enter your Product Key and Hardware ID into the on-line form, this will be done automatically for you if you used the Go button above.

Click the Activate button.

 

 

You will then be presented with an activation code, please copy this and enter it into the activation form shown in step 9.

Click the Next button to activate the software and unlock all functionality.

 

2.2. Instructions for installing the trial version

 

Trial version is a limited version of the application functionality which allows the user to use the application for evaluation. All the features of the application are enabled with a few restrictions.

The trial version can be initiated by clicking the Close Button in the Product Upgrade form.

At any point you can activate the product or upgrade to a higher version by selecting Register from the Help menu.

3. How To Scan & Remove Duplicates?

 

3.1. Application Basic layout

 

Application Welcome Page

On successful installation and registration, the application welcome page will come up as follows,

 

 

Layout Description

System Folder List - This lists the master storage devices connected to the machine. This includes the network drives, removable storages and local hard drives. User can expand and close any folder and select any folder for processing.

 

Refreshing the System Folder List � user can refresh the system folders list by right click on top of the System Folder List. You can refresh any specific disk.

 

Feature Specific Scan Options - This contains various options required for particular scan feature. Options can vary based on the scan feature selected.

 

Master Scan Button - After selecting the target folder for scanning and setting the scan options, user can initiate the scan by clicking the scan button.

 

Features and Functionality Tab - This tabs the set of features available for the user to work. Highlight is shown for the feature which is active now. Based on the license terms and conditions, these feature tabs may get deactivated.

 

Application Minimum / Maximize Button - Application can be minimized, maximized and closed by using these buttons.

 

Main Menu - This contains the scan status Save and retrieve options.

 

 

3.2. Scan Progress and Results

 

On initiating Scan operation, Scan Progress page will come,

 

 

Scan Time Status - Shows the time remaining for the scan process to complete. This is an approximate time which helps the user to predict the scan completion time.

 

Scan Termination / Standby Buttons - User can Pause / Stop the scan at any point of time. User can resume the scan once paused.

 

Current File Under Operation - shows which file is scanned.

 

Scan Progress Percentage - Shows the percentage completed in the current scan.

 

NOTE: All Functional tabs are deactivated once scan process continues

 

 

3.3. Removing Duplicates

 

On completing the scan process, following result page will appear which prompt the user to remove the duplicates identified,

 

 

Duplicate Results - Lists all the duplicates identified in the current scan operation. This list will be empty if there is no duplicate. User can select all the duplicates by selecting the "Select All Duplicates" check box. If desired user can select individual files by selecting the group check option.

 

Duplicates Count - shows the number of duplicate files identified in the current scan operation.

File Options - Users can perform the following operations for removing the duplicates,

 

1. Remove to recycle bin - Move all files to Recycle bin from current folder.

2. Delete File Directly - Will remove the selected duplicate file directly which will be a permanent deletion.

3. Move to a Folder - Move all selected duplicate file to a desired target folder.

Removing Operations - Following operations can be performed for removing the duplicate files,

DELETE - Delete the selected duplicate file. The deletion rules follows the File Options set by the user.

RESTORE - Restore the deleted files.

GO BACK - User can move the result page to the previous Feature Page.

SAVE RESULT - Store the current scan result for future reference.

 

 

3.4. Saving Scan Results

 

User can save the scan results by clicking the "Save Result" button in the Scan Result page,

 

NOTE: Scan results will be stored in *.dup format.

 

Restoring Scan Results

User can open the previous scan results by opening the *.dup file. Click the master application icon to get the file open dialogue box.

On Opening the saved result, application will directly take the user to the result page as shown below,

 

4. Basic Features

 

DuplicateFinder application comes with a rich feature set. You can clean almost all files in your computer and over network.

 

Basic Feature set includes the following features,

1. Basic Folder duplicate scan for same file content, name, type and etcetera.

2. Pictures Duplicate Scan.

3. Music Duplicate Scan.

4. Videos Duplicate Scan.

5. Outlook Duplicate Scan.

 

Refer the following pages for more information on individual features. Features can vary based on your license terms and conditions.

 

4.1. Basic File Scan

 

Basic File Scan page will look as follows,

 

 

Following are the scan criteria's applicable for this feature,

 

Scan Modes

1. Scan for same name - Scanning for files with similar name with file names matching perfectly excluding file extensions.

2. Scan for same content - Scanning for files with similar content. For example: two video files with same movie inside without a single scene change.

3. Scan for similar name - Scanning for files with similar name similar name percentage cut off set in Duplicates Also Have category.

4. Scan for file name - Look for files with user entered name.

 

Scan Filter

1. All Files - Will search all the files in the target folder.

2. Pictures and Photos - scan only among pictures and photos like jpg, bmp, png.

3. Music - scan only among music files like mp3, wav.

4. Videos - scan only among video files like mov, mkv, mp4, 3gp.

5. Documents - scan only among document files like doc, pfd, txt.

6. Zero File Sizes - Files with size 0 in Hard Disk.

7. Custom Types - User defined extension type.

 

Duplicates Also Have Options

This option will limit the selection with following filters,

1. Files with same size.

2. Files with same extension.

3. Files with same modification name.

User can define the name similarity level. It can vary from 0 - 100%.

 

Don't Scan Options

Users can block the scan options to scan curtain files in the folder. The following options will block the scan operation.

1. Skip Zero Files - Exclude files with zero size

2. Protect System Files - Exclude system files like .dll, .ocx.

3. Ignore Uninstall Files of Software - Exclude uninstall software files.

4. Protect System Folders - Exclude system folders.

5. Within certain file size.

 

Clicking scan button will initiate the scan operation with the specified criteria�s.

 

 

4.2. Pictures Scan

 

Pictures Scan page will look as follows,

 

 

Following are the scan criteria's applicable for this feature,

 

Scan Modes

1. Scan for same name - Scanning for files with similar name with file names matching perfectly excluding file extensions.

2. Scan for same content - Scanning for files with similar content. For example: two video files with same movie inside without a single scene change.

3. Scan for similar name - Scanning for files with similar name similar name percentage cut off set in Duplicates Also Have category.

4. Scan for file name - Look for files with user entered name.

 

Scan Filter

1. All Pictures - Will search all the pictures in the target folder.

2. Custom Types - User selected picture extension type.

This option will limit the selection with following filters,

1. Files with same size.

2. Files with same extension.

3. Files with same modification name.

User can define the name similarity level. It can vary from 0 - 100%.

 

Don't Scan Options

4.3. Music Scan

4.5. Outlook Scan

 

Outlook scans your Microsoft Office Outlook and remove the duplicates. Outlook Scan page will look as follows,

 

 

NOTE: Folders included in the selection panel are from the Microsoft Office Outlook.

Following are the scan criteria's applicable for this feature,

 

Scan Types

1. Mail - Scanning mail box.

2. Task - Scanning task list.

3. Calendar - Scanning the calendar - including the meetings.

4. Notes - Scanning the notes.

5. Contacts - Scanning the contacts.

 

Scan Mode

1. Scan for Same Subject - under mail box, task, notes and calendar scan type.

2. Scan for same name, Scan for same nick name, scan for same e-mail address - under contacts scan type.

3. Scan for same Content - under mail box, task, notes and calendar scan type.

 

Duplicates Also Have Options

This option will limit the selection with following filters,

1. Same Size - under mail, task, calendar and notes scan types.

2. Same Date - under mail, task, calendar and notes scan types.

3. Same Sender - under mail scan type.

4. Same Owner - under task scan type.

5. Same Organizer - under calendar scan type.

 

Clicking scan button will initiate the scan operation with the specified criteria's.

 

NOTE:

1. Tasks, Calendar, Notes and Contacts will be searched for duplicates ONLY in default PST file.

2. Duplicates among mails will be searched in all PST files. And it will be listed in Tree View.

 

 

 

5. Advanced Features

 

DuplicateFinder application comes with a rich feature set. You perform the most advanced file operations across folders in your computer and over network.

 

Advanced Feature set includes the following features,

5.1. Comparing Two Folders

 

Comparing two folders functionality will help the user to synchronize two folder contents. Comparing two folders user interface will look like,

 

Folder operations will have following functionalities,

 

1. Copying files from One Folder to another.

2. Deleting Files in any folder.

3. Synchronizing Folders - Will synchronize the contents of the two folders. This will have the following functions,

a. Synchronizing the Right folder with Left folder - Left folder will be having contents of the Right Folder.

b. Synchronizing the Left folder with Right folder - Right folder will be having contents of the Left Folder.

c. Synchronizing both the folders - will make both the folders to have same content.

 

Availability of this feature is limited to the license terms and conditions.

 

 

 

5.2. Removing Junk Files

 

Junk file removal functionality will remove the funk files from the computer. Junk file cleaner option will look as follows,

 

 

Following formats are default junk file options. But user is allowed to define their own custom file and remove it using this option.

5.3. Restoring Files

 

This functionality will help the user to restore the files which are deleted by previous deletion operations.

The functionality user interface will look like,

 

Restoration will be feasible only when the files are still available in the Recycle Bin of the computer.

Availability of this feature is limited to the license terms and conditions.

 

NOTE: IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO RESTORE FILES WHICH ARE PREMENANTLY DELETED.


 

5.4. Search For Certain Files

 

Search for Certain Files functionality will help the user to select specific file from any specific folder in the computer and to search the same in the whole computer. User interface of this functionality will look like,

 

 

Different Options in this functionality are,

 

Add File: User can add any specific file which he wants to search in the computer. Upon clicking "Add File" button, following entry option will pop-up. Through this user can enter any file which needs to be searched.

 

 

Add From Folder: User can open any folder and select all the files in that folder for searching. If any folder is having multiple files selected folders are populated as follows and by default all files in the folder are selected for scanning.

 

 

Delete: This will remove the files being searched.

 

Clear: Will reset all the functions.

 

Searching the Selected Files:

Clicking the "Next" button will take to the basic scan page, where the selected files in previous page will scanned in any selected folder.

 

 

Clicking the scan button after selecting the folder in the system folder tree will scan and show the scan result as shown Scan Progress & Results.
